A large mass of igneous rock, formed underneath the Earth's surface and later exposed by erosion. Batholiths form when magma moves up through the Earth's crust but doesn't make it all the way to the surface, instead forming a large bubble that eventually solidifies. Although deep within the crust, eventually the softer rock above it can erode, revealing the batholith.
