This is a meta-node listing all of the full-length animated films produced by Disney.

As of this writing, The Walt Disney Company has released a total of 46 animated feature films which they consider to be their "classics" (although this number is blurring somewhat with the introduction of non-traditional methods of animation and acquisition of Pixar). As of this writing, Disney has closed its feature animation department to focus on in-house computer animation efforts; the first product of that new focus is the 45th Disney Animated Feature, Chicken Little.

  1. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, 1937.
  2. Pinocchio, 1940.
  3. Fantasia, 1940. Followed by 38, Fantasia 2000.
  4. Dumbo, 1941.
  5. Bambi, 1942.
  6. Saludos Amigos, 1943. Followed (in a way) by 7.
  7. The Three Caballeros, 1945. Follows (in a way) 6.
  8. Make Mine Music, 1946.
  9. Fun and Fancy Free, 1947.
  10. Melody Time, 1948.
  11. The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, 1949.
  12. Cinderella, 1950.
  13. Alice in Wonderland, 1951.
  14. Peter Pan, 1953. Followed by Return to Never Land.
  15. Lady and the Tramp, 1955.
  16. Sleeping Beauty, 1959.
  17. 101 Dalmatians, 1961.
  18. The Sword in the Stone, 1963.
  19. The Jungle Book, 1967. Followed by The Jungle Book 2.
  20. The Aristocats, 1970.
  21. Robin Hood, 1973.
  22. The Many Adventures of Winnie-The-Pooh, 1977.
  23. The Rescuers, 1977. Followed by 29, The Rescuers Down Under.
  24. The Fox and the Hound, 1981.
  25. The Black Cauldron, 1985.
  26. The Great Mouse Detective, 1986.
  27. Oliver and Company, 1988.
  28. The Little Mermaid, 1989.
  29. The Rescuers Down Under, 1990. Follows 23.
  30. Beauty and the Beast, 1991.
  31. Aladdin, 1992.
  32. The Lion King, 1994.
  33. Pocahontas, 1995.
  34. The Hunchback of Notre Dame, 1996.
  35. Hercules, 1997.
  36. Mulan, 1998.
  37. Tarzan, 1999.
  38. Fantasia 2000, 2000. Follows 3.
  39. The Emperor's New Groove, 2000.
  40. Atlantis: The Lost Empire, 2001.
  41. Lilo & Stitch, 2002.
  42. Treasure Planet, 2002.
  43. Brother Bear, 2003.
  44. Home on the Range, 2004.
At this point, Disney scuttled its traditional feature animation department. All features listed after this point are computer animated.
  45. Chicken Little, 2005.
  46. Meet the Robinsons, 2007.

In addition to these, Disney has produced (and helped create) the following seven Pixar computer-animated features, with one on the way. As of 2006, the distinction between "Disney films" and "Pixar films" is blurred with the acquisition of Pixar by Disney. It has yet to be seen what effect this will have on Disney's accounting of its animated features. "Cars" was the first film released after the acquisition, but it was largely completed prior to it.

  1. Toy Story, 1995.
  2. A Bug's Life, 1998.
  3. Toy Story 2, 1999.
  4. Monsters, Inc., 2001.
  5. Finding Nemo, 2003.
  6. The Incredibles, 2004.
  7. Cars, 2006.
  8. Ratatouille, 2007.
Dinosaur (2000) is the odd film out. Like Chicken Little and subsequent films, it is a computer-animated film created entirely by Disney, not by Pixar. However, Disney does not seem to count it among its Animated Features, perhaps because the backgrounds were composited from live-action footage.

Next we have two stop-motion features, which were co-created by Disney and Skellington Studios:

  1. The Nightmare Before Christmas, 1993.
  2. James and the Giant Peach, 1996.
Note that Nightmare was actually produced by the Touchstone Pictures division of Disney; it's the only film in this writeup not released by the Walt Disney Pictures division.

Finally, there are several theatrically-released full-length animated features that Disney does not include on the official list. This is because they were created by Disney's television animation division. The films in this category include:

  1. DuckTales: The Movie - Treasure of the Lost Lamp, 1990.
  2. A Goofy Movie, 1995.
  3. The Tigger Movie, 2000.
  4. Return to Never Land, 2002. Follows Peter Pan.
  5. The Jungle Book 2, 2003. Follows The Jungle Book.
  6. Piglet's Big Movie, 2003.
  7. Pooh's Heffalump Movie, 2005.
Of course, Disney has created countless animated shorts, but those are beyond the scope of this node. Also not included here are numerous direct-to-video films that are usually sequels to films listed above and are usually created by the television animation division.

Information for the Disney Animated Features series of nodes comes from the IMDb (www.imdb.com), Frank's Disney Page (http://www.fpx.de/fp/Disney/), and the dark recesses of my own memory.
