Emil Nolde (1867-1956) : A
German expressionist (yes,
another one), he seems to have
taken the
curves and
circles of
Edvard Munch and
mixed it with
some of
James Ensor's
colored
craziness. Add a
dash of
Seurat-style
impressionism, and some
African masks, and you'll get
Nolde. He seems to
often paint people madly dancing or in a
state of
revelation, strong
emotions that other
expressionists seem to
miss.
