Twenty-two years after Ender's Game was published, Orson Scott Card was informed that the name "Ender" really exists in Turkish (although it's usually spelled "Önder" there). The name means "one in a million" or "something that is rarely found" -- totally unintended by the author, but highly appropriate for Ender Wiggin.
