FFRPG stands for Free-Form Role-Playing Game.

The main idea behind an FFRPG is having no established rules. They are played in the PnP (pencil-and-paper) style, as traditional RPGs. The person who controls the game (DM, GM, etc.) is in charge of interpreting the behavior of the players largely, however, the players are given a large amount of freedom in regards to what they can do.

Due to the absolute lack of established rules, the players' Character Sheets are composed entirely of a detailed description which includes not only physical attributes, but background history, training, special abilities, or anything that would make an appearance in an RPG.

Advancement in experience (as in the traditional manner of levels) is handled either by the GM or the players, depending on the regulations the GM has set. On the same note, the use of dice as a way to determine chance is largely less than a traditional RPG. It is up to the GM whether to even use dice at all.

Those who GM FFRPGs often encourage the players to think outside of the box. Oftentimes, the players will have had experience in RPGs such as Dungeons & Dragons, which have a large set of standards FFRPG GMs tend to stay away from.

FFRPGs can be quite fun, but they are by no means for everyone who is familiar with RPGs; many people will feel more comfortable with a more structured system.
