In
Norse Mythology, Forseti is the god of
justice and the
son of
Balder and
Nanna. In the
Poetic Edda, he is called "the god that stills all strife". He resides in
Giltnir, a
palace which serves as a
court of justice with a roof of
silver supported by pillars of
gold, and spends his days settling the
differences of both men and
gods. It is said that he is so
eloquent and
persuasive that he has never failed to reconcile even the most bitter
enemies and has never been accused of being
unfair. Since his attribute is a
battleaxe, it is thought that he could be a variation of
Thor.
Forseti means "presiding one" and it is thought that
Forsetland, a city near
Oslo,
Norway, is named after him.
