Right, here we go. The Fortunate Isles, also known as the Isles of the Blest, were islands in the Western Ocean in classical and Celtic legend, where the souls of favoured mortals were received by the gods and lived happily in paradise. Apparently the Canary Islands and Madeira have both been associated with these tales.
