The
loudmouthed,
bullheaded,
libertarian wise-man of
Robert Heinlein's most famous novel
Stranger in a Strange Land. He serves as a
mentor for the
main character and others. Heinlein poured his own philosophies into Jubal, making it seem as if the dean himself thunders into the story. He possesses many
contradictory traits, which doesn't seem to bother him at all as there's
a time and place for everything. He spews wisdom out like a
garden hose gone mad. He refers to the TV as a
goddamn noisy box. Though he leans toward pacifism, he has
no qualms about fighting for his freedom. And like Heinlein himself, he's horrified to find that a religion has been founded partly based on some of his utterances. (A group of people founded a religion based on this very book.
Life imitates art?)
