A county in southeastern West Virginia, the Buckle of the Appalachian Coal Belt.

The locale of the Mingo County Coal War - which inspired the events of the film Matewan. The Coal War happened in the 1920's, between the miners that wanted to unionize and the paid gunmen of the Baldwin-Felts Detective Agency and the Pinkerton Detective Agency

Between the Hatfield and McCoy Feud and the Coal War the county earned the nickname, "Bloody Mingo"
