The term "Okie" was originally a derrogative term for a migrant farm worker in the 1930's, especially one from Oklahoma. The term was popularized by John Steinbeck in The Grapes of Wrath. Today, "Okie" generally refers to someone from Oklahoma, and is not so derrogatory.
