This company, on June 11, 2000, announced that it intends to put the first
World Wide Web server in space, on an
orbiting satellite. The server will run on an
Apple Macintosh G4, and communicate using a
long-range variant of the new
Airport networking protocol. The satellite is intended as a prototype for Sky Corp's pioneering satellite construction and deployment methods, which should allow for new satellites to be produced much more cheaply than before by avoiding the
mechanical stress that is involved only during a launch. By completing final assembly on a
space shuttle or
space station after orbit has been achieved, a device can be handled much more delicately and constructed more cheaply.
