A beautiful city on the central east coast of Florida, St. Augustine is the oldest (almost 500 years) continuing European settlement in the North America. St. Augustine city was named after the saint by Don Pedro Menendez de Aviles, an admiral of Spain and newly appointed governor of Florida, after arriving of the coast of Florida on August 28, 1565, the Feast Day of St. Augustine.

St. Augustine was founded 42 years before the English colony at Jamestown, Virginia and 55 years before the Pilgrims landed on Plymouth Rock in Massachusetts
