The linguistically recognized flavor of
English commonly spoken and written in the
United States. More specifically, that flavor of English most commonly used in the media and the central and northern parts of the country. It can usually be characterized as "white" speech, in that it can be at odds with
Standard African-American English, or the urban "
Ebonics" associated with black Americans.
SAE is likewise linguistically separated from standard
British English,
Australian English, southern American English and the dozens of other regional and national dialects.
