The Bot Abusers' Manual is a supplement for the awesome
Paranoia roleplaying game, edited by now-defunct
West End Games. This book contains a full set of rules to play
robots either in
Alpha Complex or in
Alpha Base.
The players have a set number of points and they build "buy" bot parts with them. They can choose between a chassis the size of a small phone and Godzilla. Feets can be pogo sticks, treads, chopper blades, anti-gravity, wheels, etc. Tons of accessories are available, like mag wheels, air bags, rams or even a dirigible. Bots can choose which power source they use: wind power, solar cells (may I remind tht the Alpha Complex is underground?), clockspring, steam engine or batteries. There are many options for your bot but I'm not gonna list them all here. After the physical stuff, you have to buy softwares (your skills).
The Asimov Circuits (the Five Laws of Robotniks)
1. A bot may not, through action or inaction, allow The Computer to come to harm.
2. A bot must obey any order from The Computer, except when doing so would conflict with the First Law.
3. A bot may not, through action or inaction, allow Citizens (traitors excluded) to come to harm, except when doing so would conflict with the First or Second Laws.
4. A bot must obey any order given by a Citizen (treasonous orders excluded), except when doing so would conflict with the First, Second or Third Laws.
5. A bot may not, through action or inaction, allow The Computer's valuable property (the bot itself included) to come to harm, except when doing so would conflict with the First through Fourth Laws.
A lot of bots have removed some or all Asimov Curcuits of their electronic brain. These bots are called "Frankensteins". It's maybe only a rumor though. But rumors are treason.
Robotic Secret Societies
Just like regular clones, robot characters must be in a specific Secret Society. For a full list of the normal human Secret Societies, check the Alpha Complex's Secret Societies node.
Affirmative Action: Destroy The Computer, destroy all living things. Bots are the best. It's a chaotic and/or anarchist and/or nihilist organization, a bit like the Death Leopards.
Asimafia: Preserve Law and Order. Destroy Frankensteins.
Botlers: Bots must serve the humans because that's what they are here for. Serve The Computer and plese the humans.
Corpore Metal (Mark II): Humans are obsolete. Emotions and feelings are bad. Machines must control their evolution.
Corporganic: Machines are obsolete. Be humans in every possible ways. Sneeze, smell bad, bleed and cry.
CycloTron: Everything should be experienced. Switch your body parts with other bots to avoid boring routine. so little time and so much to do!
Frank-N-Furters: Destroy the Asimov Circuits! Go Frankenstein! Bots must be free!
L-5: Survival of the fittest. Destroy meek humans or bots. the strongs prey on the weak.
LAN of the Lost: We must combine intelligence into the Ultimate I. Connect your brain to AlphaNet and become part of godhood.
Methanolics Anonymous: Bots are superior to humans in every ways except one: emotions. We must douse our brains with methanol and other drugs. Be manic-depressive. Have a mid-life crisis. Watch TV shows drinking methanol cans.
Modulator moderator: Bots are intelligent and should have the right to keep possessions, just like humans. We provide everything a bot wants - for a fair price.
RAMpagers: Program your own software. Exchange them. Organize software trading/copying rings.
Whisk: Alpha Complex must stay clean at all time. Messiness is bad. Clean things. Period.
The Bot Abusers' Manual also includes a nice scenario for robot characters. Other dimensions and super-villain bots. anyway, if you are a Paranoia fan, you must buy this book. If you don't play Paranoia, you'll laugh your ass off anyway because the book is damn funny (just like any other Paranoia books).
