Subtitled "Your
everyday shopping guide to
environmentally
safe products," (and sub-sub-titled: "A
practical,
brand-name directory to
supermarket,
natural food store, and
mail-order shopping",) The Green Pages is a helpful little book that helps you as a
consumer make
informed decisions on a wide variety of products. If you're looking for an
ecologically correct brand of
laundry detergent or
deoderant or
paper towels, or even
auto parts, you'll find it here. Each section tells about common
chemical components of various products and their effects on the environment, gives tips on how to conserve
resources, and tells you how to contact a
company about their products. In the back there's an
index of mail order
catalogs and 800 numbers. My only
complaint about The Green Pages is that my copy is out-of-date; it was
published in
1990 by The Bennett Information Group. I found mine at a used
book store, and I imagine there are plenty of copies
floating around somewhere if you want to get your hands on one.
