Superb novella by Clive Barker. It featured Cenobites (though in the novella it's the female who's the nominal leader), and of course it was the inspiration for the Hellraiser series (the first movie was a rough aproximation of the novella). In the book The Engineer was something more than just a creepy moster that chased the heroine down a hall.
