The Promise is the sequel to Chaim Potok's first novel, The Chosen. In this story, Reuven and Danny continue their friendship as the enter adulthood and their respective universities. Danny must prove that a radical new therapy will save a young boy's life. Reuven must fight against a post World War II wave of Eastern European Hasidic educators who reject his method of modern scholarship.
