I will attempt to fill the wee nodeshell

The anti-thesis to the notion that "The public gets what the public wants", which logically makes more sense. The notion that along with the products which are produced by industry comes intense advertising, brain-washing the consumer into believing they "need" said product. So by the time the product arrives in the hands of the consumer after having gone through years of marketing and advertising, they really, really want it. Along with the product, corporations manufacture desire.

Alternatively, this nodeshell could mean a few different things, but I'm on a public computer and have less than a minute remaining. Ideas?

This line is used in Going Underground by 70's punk band british The Jam. I don't know if this was the origin, or just a use of an already popular phrase. Either way I think moongirl hit the beer on the head; it's meaning is that the majority pretend to like what they have because they know nothing else. Unless, that is, they go underground...
