Book by Peter Vardy and Paul Grosch. It's a very good introduction to
ethics and
morals for the
lay-man. It's split into two sections, one on theoretical ethics and one on practical ethics. The theory chapter deals with the classical theories of people such as
Aristotle,
Kant,
Plato,
Aquinas and
MacIntyre. The practical chapter deals with
actual issues such as
euthanasia,
animal rights,
human rights and
Just War.
After reading this book I feel I have a much better understanding of classical ethical theories. I'm now motivated to go and do a lot more reading on the subject because the book has left me wanting more. This isn't a gripe, though - the book is full of interesting, well-written content. This is rather a compliment, because Vardy has described the subject so well that I'm thirsting for more well-written matter on the topic.
