The Russian Five

The Russian five, sometimes known as The Mighty Five, were a group of influential Russian Composers formed in the 1860's.

The group consisted of:

The group banded together in an attempt to create a truly national school of Russian music, free of the stifling influence of Italian opera, German lieder, and other western European forms.
