Working in a
small office has its
benefits and
drawbacks, but one of the largest negatives is having the listen to the drivel that passes for music that is pumped out by the local
top 40 station that your co-workers choose to listen to. Now, mind you, I went through my phase of listening to the pop station when I was in
junior high, but once I learned that there was music with style, meaning, and a message, along with the truth that my
opinion was not decided by my
peers, I left top 40 and never looked back.
Well, now I work in a small office, and my co-workers stalled at the
Casey Kasem point in their life. The sound of
Britney Spears and her ilk are about to drive me to distraction. How often can you listen to the same song? According to the people who make up the
playlist, once per hour seems to the be acceptable interval.
The worst part of it all is like some insideous
disease or like
tooth decay, the music is beginning to eat away at my taste. I found myself having a discussion about the
Backstreet Boys with a teenager the other day, and was embarrassed to find that I was able to hold up my end of the conversation.
