Sarcastic moniker for the
Magic: The Gathering collectible card game (semi-
affectionately used by
former players such as
myself), referring to the highly
addictive nature of the game. Even though all the cards are on
cardboard and worth less than a
penny, some have been designated as
rare and are worth into the
hundreds of dollars if you can find a
drooling player willing to take it off your hands for you.
Richard Garfield and
Wizards of the Coast, the game
creator and
producers, are
evil geniuses. Each few months they release a new
set of cards and declare that the older sets are no longer suitable for certain types of
tournament play, leading everyone to run back to the
store and pick up another few hundred dollars worth of cards to stay
current.
