Russian author. Born 1855, died 1888.

Garshin's life work consists of about a score of stories, uniting realism with suggestive impressionism, often with a somber theme. Most notably, Four Days (1877) is a morose depiction of the author's experience during the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-78.

Garshin was manic-depressive, and committed suicide.
