Also known as graphite creep or the graphite expansion problem. When you bombarb graphite with neutrons, it expands. This isn't a problem unless you build a nuclear reactor out of graphite-- and most of the first ones were built this way. The graphite also stores Wigner energy, which isn't the best thing to keep around fissionable material. First described by Eugene Wigner.
