accusative with infinitive

Latin grammar construct expressing the same idea as English "that" followed by a subject and a verb.

For example, "I think that I am" would become "I think me to be", in Latin, "cogito me esse".

the ACI (accusativus cum infinitivo, as this construct is called in Latin) exists in several other languages that use declensions, most notably Greek.

It is generally used to express indirect expressions and therefore usually follows verbs of saying, thinking, fearing, feeling etc. In Greek there is also a form of independant ACI, in which the infinitive is the actual subject of the sentance something along the lines of: to be wise is good)
