A small extra fin found on some fish, including salmon, trout, some catfish, and fish in the Characin family. It is located between the dorsal and anal fin, formed from fatty tissues. The purpose of the adipose fin is unknown; it doesn't seem to help in the propulsion or navigation of the fish.
