Air defense is the concept of
defending a fixed land-based or sea-surface
installation or
unit from attack by enemy
aircraft. It can include everything from
Anti-Air Artillery, aka
AAA,
Triple-A or
flak, to
Combat Air Patrols (
CAP) flown by friendly
interceptor or
fighter aircraft. The physical units used for this task are, naturally,
air defenses.
