Allosteric Interaction: An interaction involving an enzyme that has two binding sites, the active site and a site into which another molecule, an allosteric effector, fits; the binding of the effector changes the shape of the enzyme and activates or inactivates it. Allosteric interactions also play a role in transport processes involving integral membrane proteins.
