One of two major clefs, the other being the treble clef. The symbol for the bass clef comes from the old German way of writing the letter F. The F below middle C is on the fourth line of the staff, with two dots straddling it on either side, top and bottom.

The mnemonic "ACEG" spells out the four notes in the spaces (from bottom to top) between the staff lines in a bass clef, while the staff lines themselves spell out "GBDFA" from bottom to top. Most music students remember these as "All Cows Eat Grass" and "Good Boys Do Fine Always."
