As I recall Micheal J. Fox receives a broken wrist in an early episode of Family Ties while playing chess against the "Soviet junior champion". Fox refer's to the bum wrist as, "My first chess injury". The episode is odd in that never before or after is Fox character's chess skill ever mentioned. It also kinda sucks because Tina Yothers is barely in the episode.

Anthony Edwards apparently bowed out of the second Revenge of the Nerds movie (Nerds in Paradise), so they gave his character a broken leg - acquired, evidently, during a chess match.

Concidently, Chess is the only game that consistently makes people hurt themselves on a regular basis over their own mistakes.

I once slapped myself and accidently bit my tounge once when I did the wrong opening.
