A situation in which the resolution depends on some condition which in turn is dependent on the resolution to the original situation. A depends on B, but B depends on A. The first c-and-e problem was "which came first, the chicken or the egg?". The answer, of course, is the egg, because dinosaurs were laying eggs millions of years before chickens evolved.
