cissoid of Diocles

This cissoid was created by Diocles sometime around 180 BC. He was interested in the problem of doubling the cube one of the three geometric problems of antiquity.

Read the cissoid writeup first. The data for creating the cissoid are a circle, a tangent line to the circle, and the point on the circle opposite to the intersection point of the tangent and the circle. If this latter point is (0,0) and the tangent is x=a then we get a cissoid with equation

y2(a-x)=x3.
