A
homosexual "comes out" of "the
closet" when
he reveals his
sexual orientation to friends, family, co-workers, etc. Possible
reasons for this are a desire to be
honest and
open, to have
someone to talk to, or to gain instant (though often unfounded)
credibility on all things
stylish.
One should not come out for mere shock value. Far from tactful, this approach usually doesn't go over well.
Coming out icebreakers:
- "Mom, I've got cancer and only 6 months to live. ... Oh, I'm kidding, I'm just gay."
- "Please pass the mashed potatos to the fag on your left."
