A simple intuitive definition of a convex polygon is a polygon whose angles all point "out". More formally, it is a polygon such that any line segment connecting one side of the polygon to another, will always be inside the polygon.

Another formulation is: if you shoot a ray in any direction from anywhere inside the polygon, you will always intersect the polygon only once.
