People sometimes
assume that
girls want
people to comment on their looks, as long as those comments are
positive. Can I be the only one who doesn't? And am I
incorrect in
thinking that until pretty
recently,
girls weren't supposed to do the same to
boys? If I'm not, there's a
damned good reason for that. It's
rude to
assess someone else's appearance. To
compliment someone's
clothing is fine, maybe even certain
physical features, if it's done in the
context of a
subculture where certain kinds of
modifications are
the norm (example:
pierced ears). But to
act as though you have the
right to
judge the
aesthetic value of
traits someone can't change is just
dumb. Even if you're
saying something nice.
