A phrase that embodies the
mindset of the serious members of
college marching bands and
drum corps. Music played
on the field by a
band or
corps should be
loud and
fast and
high (especially in the
trumpets), and it just can't get loud enough or fast enough or high enough. You have to keep pushing, keep striving, keep searching for just a little more
sound to put on top of the
deafening roar already being produced, you have to reach down into your feet and pull everything out, including your
soul, and heave it at the
press box while your fingers bleed and your lips go numb, until they start
throwing babies from the balcony. Then you know you've
played.
