A hyperbaric chamber is an enclosed oxygen-rich environment which is reputed to have medicinal benefits to people and animals when they are placed inside.

This treatment is employed for many illnesses, including the following:

acute carbon monoxide poisoning, decompression illness, gas embolism, gas gangrene, acute traumatic peripheral ischemia, crush injuries, necrotizing fascitis, acute peripheral insufficiency, skin grafts, chronic refractory osteomyelitis, osteoradionecrosis, soft tissue radionecrosis, cyanide poisoning and actinomycosis.

Clinical tests are being made to determine whether the treatment is effective on Cerebal Palsy, stroke and MS. Some people even report that oxygen treatment can help reduce the effects of aging, but there is no evidence that this is the case.
