It is a colorless kerosene-like substance with a flash-point of about 38-40 degrees F.

Jet A-1 is slightly different from Jet A in that it has a lower maximum freezing point (-47 degrees C) than Jet A which freezes at -40 degrees C. This makes Jet A1 more suitable for long international flights at the chilly high altitudes.

Jet A-1 appears to be the choice of fuels for commercial aviation world-wide, except in the United States where Jet A is favored because of its lower price.

Like JP8, Jet A-1 contains various additives to inhibit corrosion, prevent static buildup, lubricate engine parts, and reduce the likelihood of explosions.
