Known in the
U.S. Army as
Boot, Hot Weather, Type I,
jungle boots are a light weight, speed laced combat boot featuring a rubber sole and a combination leather/nylon duck upper. At one time the
nylon duck was colored green, but has been changed to black. The heel and toe of the upper are
leather and can be
spit shined. They feature drainage eyelets to allow water to run out as well as a special insole designed to facilitate air circulation. The sole incorporates a steel plate to protect against
punji stakes. They weigh about 1.5 kg, about .5 kg lighter than standard issue boots, which makes them fairly popular among soldiers.
