Belief in 13th century France that the touch of a monarch could cure scrofula. It's unlikely that the touch of a king actually did anything, however, the sores caused by scrofula go away over time without treatment. If you were a king and people started to claim you have healing powers, wouldn't you play along? The idea spread to England around 1260. Queen Anne was the last English monarch to claim healing powers.
