Consists of a ten-foot length of metal pipe, with a rod of magnesium threaded through, and fastened to the inside. One end of the pipe is connected to an oxygen pump. The other end is lit, and the oxygen pump is turned on.

The resultant flame is very hot, so hot that even with thick welder's gloves, the pipe is almost too hot to handle after it burns down to a three foot length or shorter. Obviously lancing rods are consumed as they burn.

The application for this is in construction/destruction, when a 5-foot thick slab of concrete needs to be broken up for hauling away, or when an industrial furnace has a similarly thick layer of cold metal slag which needs removing.
