A
1984 book released as a
tie-in to the
British TV show
The Young Ones, written by
Nigel Planer and Terence Blacker as if the
hippie character neil (played by Planer) were trying to create a book of lore comparable to the
Tibetan Book of the Dead. (neil's name is never capitalized, and the "i" is dotted with a
flower throughout.) neil is trying to live a sixties hippie
commune life in the early
1980s and so the book is full of such things as a series of
letters to the makers of "
Blubber Crunch"
breakfast cereal on their environmentally un-friendly use of whale parts in the cereal, and instructions on how to build a
squat in your parents' house.
