adjective: something which is not covered. Usages:
I'm out of pocket $200 on expenses for the last E2 gathering.
The speaker has spent $200 on things like a smoked pork shoulder.
Travel Policy: Toiletries will be covered out of pocket.
Persons traveling will not be reimbursed for buying toiletries.
I'll be out of pocket next week while on vacation.
I have no coverage - no cellphone, no pager. Don't bother trying to call me.
