Belated Update
I especially like the new write-up formatting tool now available WhazJooSeeZWhaYaGot thingy, so I decided at this time to give a poysinull past and current events mini auto bio, me-o my-o.
Disclaimer: My memory's not totally like all there, so.....
I changed several jobs since my last daylog, which was probably not unlike the proverbial Captain's log floating around the Enterprise's head. I haven't substitute taught in a long while, and I've left the the Security Officer position way behind me. Albeit I still have my one security company's uniform which I used to fill in one time at this food processing plant. Oh, let me digress here.....think of it as a Joycian flashback.
When I was trained for this site, (they make a famous actor's brand product) I realized I would not stay. You went from refrigerated rooms to unbelievably stuffy and hot ones. One room, where the waste liquid goes, was succinctly called the "stink room."
Fortunately, I only filled in on the weeknight where only the offices were checked.
Oh, now this is the very present: I accidently hit the submit button thinking it was the window that housed the HTML special characters I was going to use. Anyone reading this (at 8:51, August 11, 2007) will be almost like on ChatterLightHeaded.
Anyway, back to my story. My job now, 4 days old, is learning to be a heavy industrial machinery assembler. The company makes 30 to 60 foot aerial lifts. I had two days of classroom, and two days on the noisy, hot, dirty floor. I shoulda stayed in school. I have a trainer that sounds exactly like Bill Paxton on Alien. He calls me 'Dude' a lot, especially when I lifted one end of a 1000 lb + boom too far up -- angling it a wee bit too precariously. "You're not listening, you're not paying attention! We have an hour to get this prepped, you've taken 4 hours to put the bushings in two of those....unacceptable."
Just before this gig, I worked from June in the Garden Center at our local YouKnowWho*Mart. Talk about grueling. I helped stock the river pebbles and mulch as well as load in customers' vehicles. I never thought a human being could sweat so much and live. Thank Sam for providing his water in a cooler in the greenhouse where temps topped the 100 degree mark.
Before that I was making good money as a security officer until the company I worked for lost the contract at the site. So I reapplied with them. All was well coming out of my booth to check the backs of 18 wheelers. But then a young woman who was an acting boss where I worked last Christmas at another site, for another company (I left my one security company to work in a nursing home....remember?) became the new Site Commander for the new company. She had me working two days day shift, two days evening, and then with hardly 8 hours in between, overnights. I quit, and that's when I went to Walton's Pond. Where I was a little fish. 32 hours a week wasn't helping, moreso with a new car payment, almost a big as my house note monthly. Time to hit the classifieds, and the pavement, before all my stuff did, too.
First I tried at a cream cheese processing plant. (Suzy? Suzy Cream Cheese, we've just come into town and we'd like to know.....) The two 'partners' who interviewed me must not have been impressed with my using Postal and Whale*Mart examples for their work and safety related questions. So the staffing firm responsible for getting workers to try to survive 3 or 4 months until converting to the plant employees had me try at this other company, where I said: "Yeah, I like this, it looks like fun putting stuff together, especially right here in our country."
So, there I be. I have to learn a third next week, 2/3 the following, and by the 4th one, I'd better know how to do it. That coming from the Line Facilitator.
On another note, I bought a V2 Premier computer with P4 and XP Home for $10! Spiregrain helped me in the catbox when I first cried out for help when I got the blue screen of 'missing or bad Windows/System/Config.sys. Maybe a virus. Why would someone just donate this CPU to a charity like that? Anyway, I got bootup downloads, but can't get the XP to run. I have dial-up so Ubuntu's too big.
I guess I'll have to spend $80 on XP Home retail.
Any questions? If not, that's the end of this briefing. (Almost embarrassed to call it a de-briefing)
Get it? Pulling down my briefs...heh
