One of eight federal public health agencies within the Department of Health and Human Services in the United States Executive Branch of governement. It started as the Communicable Disease Center, an outgrowth of the Office of Malaria Control in War Areas in 1946. In peacetime, it went to work on other disease surveillance, tracking polio and smallpox in the 1950s, and working on prevention. In addition to Atlanta, they have facilities in Anchorage, Cinncinnati, Fort Collins, Pittsburgh, San Juan, Spokane, and Washington, D.C.

I live roughly 2 miles from the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta, Georgia, right by Emory University.

Often times, while walking or driving past it, there will be some idiot protesters there, usuallly about five or six of them, complaining about Animal Research, why these diseases aren't just destroyed, or proclaiming that the cdc is busy opening Pandora's Box when they start making cells immortal, and while they may be right on the last count, thats another story.

The walls where they keep The Nasties Of The Apocylapse (ebola, anthrax, hanta virus, etc.) is surrounded by concrete walls Six Feet Thick. All of the Nasties are protected from terrorists by an armed security force of an innumerable number of soldiers, most of them not on site but ready to pounce on the area should anything happen. Bomb Threats are common, and whenever there is one, roughly 100 firemen, policemen, and bomb squad agents pounce whatever the threat may be, in addition to this, The Nasties of The Apocylapse can be sealed in liquid cement and then sealed behind another foot of Titanium permantly, should any terrorists get too close to them, or some catastrophe, like say, a nuclear bomb, happen.
