Fi*no"chi*o [It. finocchio fennel, LL. fenuclum. See Fennel.] Bot.

An umbelliferous plant (Feniculum dulce) having a somewhat tuberous stem; sweet fennel. The blanched stems are used in France and Italy as a culinary vegetable.
