An observation by Werner Icking about traffic jams and how each individual driver perceives their own responsibility for crowded roads.

The next time you feel frustration or road rage during stop-and-go traffic, consider this axiom.

Have you posted a carpool ad anywhere? Is there a subway or bus or jitney you could take? Have you put away your bicycle to make room for an exercise machine?

Traffic jams are supremely annoying -- but they're not always necessary. You may have more choices than you realize.
