A radiatively cooled rocket engine is a rocket engine which is typically made from a very high melting point metal (such as Tantalum or Tungsten). The combustion goes on inside the engine at about 3000C, but the engine does not melt, even if the combustion temperature is slightly higher than the melting point, as the heat radiation keeps the engine cool.
