A car styling gimmick which became compulsory on American cars from 1955 to 1959. Invented by General Motors' Harley Earl and first appearing on the 1945 Cadillac.

The tallest fins belonged to the 1959 Cadillac but the longest fins were found on the 1958 Buick Limited. GMH also put some pretty nice fins on the FB and EK Holdens.
