actor, born November 28, 1950.
Ed Harris attended Columbia University and Oklahoma University, where he found an interest in acting. Harris quit school to pursue an acting career at the California Institute of the Arts where he received a fine arts degree in 1975.
His acting career began with performances on stage in theatrical features such as "The Grapes of Wrath" and small roles the films Borderline and Knightriders. His first large roll in a major film came in 1983, as Astronaut John Glenn in The Right Stuff.
James Cameron chose Harris to star in his high-budget sci-fi film, The Abyss in 1989, and in 1995, Harris received his first Oscar nomination for his role as Gene Kranz in Apollo 13. The Rock, Absolute Power, The Trueman Show, and Harris's second Oscar nominated performance in Pollock (this time for best actor) followed.
